EMAS registration of Bibione Tourism Pole
EMAS registration of Bibione Tourism Pole of Polo was established for ensuring an effective management of issues connected to critical activities by an environmental point of view, such as tourism is.
The initiative, sponsored by the Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento and carried out with the technical and scientific support of the Environmental Quality Study Center and the University Consortium for Applied Research, has anticipated some of the changes introduced in later reviews of the EMAS Regulation and has first addressed and overcome the issues related to territorial application of an Environmental Management System.
The distinctive feature of this innovative project is to extend to an entire territory: this approach has made possible the optimization of human resources in environmental management planning, meeting the needs of all stakeholders (citizens, businesses, local authorities, tourists ).
The involvement from the outset of the various stakeholders (institutional and otherwise) has been critical to the success of such an initiative.
In June 2002, this original project was awarded by the European Commission, which stated the Tourism Pole of Bibione as a reference of excellence in EMAS implementation in Europe.
